Dive deeper into the mind of Yang Ge (sometimes a.k.a Sharon), designer of the controversial “Yours Or Mine, Wanna Bet?“. Strange, nonchalant and quirky are words she describes herself with, and we say, who cares what you’re like when you’re this talented? Read on to find out more about Yang Ge!
Crowning Stroke: What have you been up to?
Yang Ge: Battling with A levels, the hugest villain. Also writing new songs for my band. Can I advertise? www.myspace.com/likeaband !
CS: What pushes your buttons?
YG: Agyness Deyn
CS: When did you become interested in art?
YG: I always liked drawing, since young, but those were just drawings. After I saw Marcel Duchamp’s urinal I was greatly inspired and then became really interested in art.
“My favourite photo for my fashion design project”
CS: Who do you consider to be the ultimate artist? And why?
YG: I really can’t decide. But I like many artists, like Norman Rockwell for his clever illustrations, and Wayne Thiebaud for those unappetizing cakes.
CS: What is the strangest, funniest comment your works have received?
YG: Is that a girl or a boy?
Yang Ge’s Sketch Book
CS: Describe your art in exactly 5 words, no more, no less.
YG: Strange in a strange way
CS: How has being involved with art influenced your life?
YG: I think it makes me really weird sometimes.
CS: Your must have fashion accessory of the moment?
YG: My nonchalant look? All the time.
Cute Mistakes
CS: Complete the sentence: For a million dollars, I would….
YG: Watch Boogie Man again.
CS: Any shout outs you want to give?
YG: Take good care!
CS: Any words of wisdom?
YG: Not wise enough yet, maybe in the future!
CS: Thanks Yang Ge! We’re looking forward to those words of wisdom in the future!

And that’s exactly where we spent the last day of November, at the Haji Lane Sunday Flea Market. The sun was out in full force with all guns blazing, staring us down and out to take no prisoners. There was no where to run, no where to hide. Especially when it started to pour after the sun had its way with the crowd. To quote, we were “Half dead, And a third alive, A quarter ticking over on the middle by the side of the road” (Great for you if you know where that came from, if not, you’re sorely missing out on a great band: Babyshambles).
Thank goodness then for the great company we had! From the hardworking organisers, to our cheery neighbours and the fabulous crowd, it was a great way to spend an otherwise gloomy Sunday plauged with the heat and occassional rain. It’s always great to meet like-minded people, and it’s even better when they get themselves a tee from us. Thank you guys for the support!
For the uninitiated, Haji Lane is a little road located near Arab Street, lined with old shophouses which many botique shops call home. Really great stuff, I say. There’s a really vibe to the place. There aren’t any fixed dates for the Haji Lane Flea Market and there’s no telling when the next one will be held, so For those of you who missed the flea market, I hope you guys managed to strike big sweep/toto/4D, cos that was how fantastic it was.
The calm before the storm. All is quiet…
And then the hordes of shopping-hungry girls hit the street.
True story: As it started to rain shortly after this photo was taken, this particular lady shopping at the neighbouring stall whipped out an umbrella and continued to shop while in the rain as others ran, screaming and shrieking for shelter. I think everyone was so in awe of her that she got herself a pretty good discount. Fortune favours the brave and the prepared. Respect.
Smiling guy wearing a pair of shades, in a “Chicks Dig It” tee stained with iced coffee
Oooh yeah. You better believe it, everything’s only $24.
Bags filled with lots of love, and sizes for everyone. Brought to you by lots of hard, manual labour, as well as the letters: W-E-N-E-E-D-A-T-R-O-L-L-Y.
It isn’t everyday that you get to see a huge white bird chilling out by the side of the road.
Maybe you’ve made a short film. Or perhaps, you’ve flaunted your inner diva after nabbing a lead role in one of them (yes…those unglamourous youtube videos count!). Way back since the heydays of black & white, films have spanned across generations, transcended cultures, languages, time & place. Today, countless of films are still streaming out from the vast pool of creative minds worldwide.
With the rising support of local film making, we’re proud to do our part by presenting to you a short film artfully directed by our friend Ian Wong. Produced as part of the Parable Project 2008, a 2-3 week intensive media production workshop spearheaded by Wide Angle Productions, his film “The Assignment” follows the melodramatic journey of Mr. Wee, whose desperation to fufil a quest pits him against unusual encounters with hillarious results. Will Mr. Wee succeed in his ‘epic’ quest? Watch on.
For everyone who missed us last MAAD, come down on the 6-7 Dec and have a blast! We’ll be located inside the Red Dot Museum, so do drop by and say hi! We. Will. Be. Waiting.
We got in touch with Edric, the winner of the TEEase competition 2008 and the brainchild behind the unique ‘Louvre City’ design, to find out more about what he has been up to since the competition. Not only did Edric gamely answer our questions, he even gave us some insight into his dancing skills. Read on to find out more!
Crowning Stroke: Hi Edric, How’s it going?
Edric: Hihi, I’m now pretty much preoccupied with some ambitious personal projects that I’m going to launch in the new year, besides that, life still goes on pretty peacefully I guess, which is a good thing too
CS: What keeps you busy besides your art?
E: Hmmm currently other than meeting up with my friends, the occasional karaoke sessions, and weekly church I guess it’s work and work…Oh yeah I like reading magazines and blogs too, pretty nerdy stuff.
CS: What or who are your inspirations? Why?
E: Hmm this is a very tough question, I mean I have different inspirations for different aspects of my life, I can’t seem to point out just one for now, but generally I’m pretty much inspired by positive and passionate people, especially those who dare to dream and have faith in it.
Dream Accent
CS: Complete the sentence: If you were a woman…
E: Then I must surely be dreaming….
CS: Which are your favourite mediums to work with?
E: Definitely it’s the digital medium, but occasionally I try to use back mechanical (I’m too lazy too sharpen) pencils and pens to keep my creativity sharp.
CS: What’s the strangest comment you have received about your work?
E: Hmm I don’t recall any strange comments about my work, but there are bad comments before, but lets keep this topic positive shall we?
Gaia Living Planet
CS: Where would you want to be 10 years from now?
E: I’ll definitely want to be at the top of my game, staying sharp, most importantly to have accomplished all the goals and dreams that I have now for the next 10 years, which is still a secret.
CS: Can you do the chicken dance?
E: Flapping my arms like the chicken? I’d probably do it better than the chickens themselves haha.
Dragon Sumi
CS: Any words of wisdom?
E: No, there’s already so much of it out there, I don’t want to confuse people by adding the same thing in different words or different language.
CS: Alright that’s cool. Thanks for your time Edric! Lastly, any shout outs you want to give?
E: Wooooohoooooooo!!!!

A big thank you to everyone who came down last weekend to the Red Dot Museum to visit our booth. We had a great time meeting everyone! For those who missed out on MAAD this month, do try to make it for the next MAAD, and support our local creative talents.
You can never have too many tees. Ever.
Presenting to you..the one and only, the ever lovely Kossy! Say hi when you do see her, she’s friendly and doesn’t bite. Unless you happen to be a plate of hokkien prawn mee. No guarantees you’ll escape unscathed.
Wondering who that hardworking lady in the left side of the photo is? She’s Candy, part of a husband and wife pair who were our neighbours for the weekend. Beon and Candy run their own business making leather products, handmade to the very last stitch. Pouches, wallets, holders and even bags, they make it all from scratch out of their own ingenuity. They do accept customized orders too, and are very willing to try new ideas. Don’t just take my word for it though, visit them at MAAD or check out their website at leatherprince.blogspot.com.
For guys who can’t afford a flashy sports car to attract the chicks, you might want to consider his animal keychains. I lost track of the number of ladies who gushed over how cute they were.
Beon and Candy kindly accepted my request for a customized Ipod Nano Case. Since he only had cases made for the Ipod classic, they took measurements and made me a new case, together with my very own lightning bolt. 100% handmade, baby. Ka-Pow!
We’ll be at MAAD - the Market of Artists And Designers this coming weekend! Hosted on the first weekend of every month at the Red Dot Museum located near Tanjong Pagar MRT, MAAD is a carnival of original & creative works by various local talents. Definitely not like your neighbourhood pasar malam.
We’ll be there on the 1 & 2 of November, 11am-7pm on both days! Do come by to check out the tees and have a nice chat with us! We’ll really be looking forward to chilling with everyone. See you this weekend!
As you know, we’re always peeling our eyes open for new artistic goodness to share, so guess what we stumbled upon this time? This one cuts close to home as one of our TEEase finalist - Tony Chew was spotted on Culture Push (a local site that hunts own interesting art, culture & design happenings in Singapore). Click here for the Culture Push feature or visit Tony’s profile page to find out more about this budding artist.
Featured below is Tony’s artwork which was displayed at the Diesel Wall Exhibition in New York early this year. Read more about the Diesel Wall art initiative, and see how artists get their works featured on ‘the world’s largest outdoor gallery’. It’s really a pretty interesting concept.

Congratualations on being spotted Tony!
If art can be displayed on walls, why not t-shirts?
Hi everybody! Our apologies as it has been a while since the last post, we’ve been busy with super-secret stuff which we hope to be able to unleash upon the world in the months to come! Until then do check back for the art-related tidbits we want to share with you all!
Recently we’ve chanced upon the newly launched website Sketch Theatre , which gives you an insight to killer artists such as Steven Daily and Gary Baseman, through a view point most of us would never dream of being able to see: right over their shoulder as they work. Here’s one of my favourite sketches on the site done by Corey Miller. Pretty amazing eh?
